For more than two decades, Valerie Crousse led one of Lima's foremost strategic design studios, shaping the visual language of brands across Latin America. In 2019, she made a deliberate break: she left the studio she had cofounded and directed for twenty-five years to work entirely with her hands, in clay.

The shift was not a retreat from design but a deepening of it. In ceramics, Crousse found what the screen could not offer: the resistance of material, the unpredictability of fire, the irreversible weight of a decision made by hand. She pursued this new practice with the same rigor she had brought to design, completing a four-year program at the Escuela Sonia Céspedes Rossel — a rigorous institution for ceramic formation in Lima, Peru — in December 2025.

From her Lima studio, she develops bodies of work organized around specific construction techniques, each one a formal constraint that becomes the generative force behind a distinct visual and expressive language. Each series emerges from a specific technique — blending, layering, coiling — followed to its limits until the material reveals what it is willing to do.
